Hi there! So, here’s my most awaited bedroom interior design on Interior Designology which is basically my son’s room, a baby boy room design!

A little bit about the little monster who’s going to live in this small beautiful space. His name is Trijal and he is 3 years old. He loves to be a troublemaker and he’s a chatterbox who can eat your ears in just 5 minutes, without even thinking twice. He loves to throw things here and there and know how to make you smile when you’re angry at him.

A little info about what we’re looking for in this bedroom; It’s a small room and we don’t want to use this bedroom just for our son, we want it to be used as a guest bedroom whenever needed so a small toddler or bunk bed was a big no for us. This room is considerably small and has a very awkward L shape, also we want to have a lot of storage because we cannot keep everything on the display because of the room size.

Here’s a rough layout of what we’re planning to do in this room and you can see how small this room is.

Baby Boy Room Design

About the project – A Baby Boy Room Design

Because Trijal doesn’t have any favorite color yet we decided to go with blue and yellow for the interior theme. Trijal pretty much recognizes every color now so it was fun to add some more colors via books in his room. He always asks us to give him a book by the color name, it’s a nice trick to keep him teaching new colors.

As you already know that the space is pretty small and awkward in shape, we went for full furniture pieces to cover the space evenly. There’s not much for us to add in terms of furniture apart from a bed and a wardrobe, we still decided to add a small study table with the wardrobe so we won’t need to do it in the future(probably in 2 years).

We left the floor as it is and decided to paint the walls white to brighten up this small space. We have added different lights other than the usual ones, one above the bed and one above the study table to add some dimension to space.

We never wanted to have small furniture so again for wardrobe we chose to build a custom wardrobe that can be double as a study table for our toddler in the future. Wardrobe and the Study have a blue and soft beige wood color laminate on it which is quite complimenting to each other.

We’ve added 2 shelves, a photo frame, and a focus light right above the study table to complete the look.

Right behind the room’s door, there’s a height tracking wall sticker that Trijal likes a lot and he already recognizes a lot of animals too so it’s really fun to see his face when he calls out the animal names.

These below bookshelves and the triangle one which you’ll see in the below photos, we got these made with the rest of our furniture. We found similar shelves on Amazon in white color but they were very overpriced so we decided to place an order of these 3 shelves from our furniture guy.

The bed is in 3 parts, one is the headboard, the second is the middlebox, and the third one is an openable box with a cushioned seat. We chose a multicolor printed yellow, and plain blue fabric for the headboard and the box to match with the rest of the room theme.

This bed has wheels underneath so we can pull it out easily whenever we need to, it’s really functional and easy to move.

Trijal’s Nani and Dadi both hand-knitted some winter clothes for him so we decided to frame 1 each from both that he wore the very first time. It’s a special memory to cherish and we hung the frames right above the headboard.

These frames are custom-made from a local shop in Delhi, Dwarka. The frame maker did a fine job and we are fully satisfied with the outcome.

This embordered yellow and blue hanging light is tying up this corner so well. We ordered this light from Pepperfry and let me tell you it’s not the best quality one and just because we needed to finish this room on time and we don’t want to go through the replacement process we decided to keep it.

We’ve created a small photo wall with few golden floating shelves, this wall has a yellow triangle pattern going on which looks too cute in our opinion

. We tried to keep everything away from Trijal’s reach so that he cannot break the frames or tear the books when left unsupervised.

Adding shelves like these on walls is a great way to display some interesting books, this way you can develop some interest in your toddler to read, or maybe he would just look at photos and learn new animals or color names.

Trijal has started identifying a lot of colors and alphabets by just looking into these pretty books. He also started to learn animal names via these colorful books, he mostly asks for the books that are displayed on the shelves. I think you should try this trick for your toddlers.

There’s a window in this room right opposite to the bed, which we are planning to take out in the future but it’s a long process so we left it as it is and covered it with the yellow color roman blind and added a shelve in a triangle shape on the same wall which completes this wall.

We always try to keep the blind string away from Trijal’s reach, otherwise, he could’ve hurt himself or break the blind’s rod completely so it’s a thing that we need to keep in mind.

For tying the whole room together we added a yellow and white rug which looks amazing and is very comfy, also we teach Trijal on this rug so it’s a win-win deal.

This is in a geometric pattern in white and yellow color and the size is 6×9 ft.

Important takeaways from this project “Bedroom For Boys”:

  1. Small furniture should be a big no if you are planning to have guests in your kid’s bedroom.
  2. Keep things out of reach from your kid’s hands, they can be quite messy sometimes. You can keep a few toys or books in a fabric basket or arrange them on small floor shelves so that they can learn to do things on their own.
  3. Keep books on display so that your kid can ask for them, and colorful books always attract kids. This can develop reading habits in kids.
  4. If you cannot afford to invest again and again in the room furniture or décor, then plan according to the future after all they’re going to grow in a blink.
  5. Don’t forget to plan a study even if they don’t go to school yet, it would come in handy for a lot of things.
  6. Buy at least two bedsheets that can go with your boy’s room décor; you never know if they decide to play the devil when you have guests coming over.
  7. If you have a similar space for a bed like us then add wheels to the base so you can pull out the bed easily whenever you need to.
  8. Try to resource from your local shops or carpenters, it would help them in this pandemic situation going on.

I hope you liked this Interior Designology project as much as we do, please comment and let us know your feedback so we can keep improving in future projects.
