The interior design of your home is very important for many reasons. Having a superior interior design in your home can make your home worth more out on the market, make it seems more desirable to those who would be interested in purchasing your home, can make your home seem more welcoming to guests when they are arriving, and perhaps most importantly of all, can just make your home seem ‘more like home’ to you and allow you to fundamentally enjoy living there more as well.

If you are not fully satisfied with the interior look and decor of your home right now, but also are not fully sure about what you need to do, you’ve come to the right place.

Here are the top five ways that you can take your interior design to the next level:

Replace the Countertops

One of the best things that you can do to improve your home’s look and value is to replace the countertops and especially in the kitchen and the master bathroom. The kitchen is the center of your home and where everybody will likely initially gather when you have guests, whereas the master bathroom is often considered to be the most important room to potential homebuyers.

The countertops can dramatically improve both the look and functionality of your home. They are used virtually everybody and have to sustain the abuse of repeatedly placings pots and pans or electronics on them while also maintaining a natural and impressive look.

The best kind of countertops to get will be natural stone countertops, such as marble or granite. Both marble and granite are relatively affordable, per this helpful resource. They both do an excellent job of resisting scratches and stains and can add an excellent look to your home overall.

Add (or Change) A Rug

A rug can also add a positive look to your home as well, and if it’s a plush and comfortable rug, it can also make your home more welcoming. Two rooms that will absolutely need a rug in your home will be the living room and the family room. Place the front feet of each piece of furniture in your home and place them on the edge of the rug.

An eight by ten-foot rug would be good for most homes, unless if your living or family room is particularly small. A larger sized living room may need a ten by twelve feet rug instead.

Hang A Pendant

In contrast to using ceiling fixtures or floor lamps, you can instead use an oversized pendant light. Hang this light low over a table or coffee table, and you will make the room it’s in much more welcoming. Most homes don’t have such a low hanging pendant anyway, so at the very least it will instantly stand out.

Just take note that the pendant needs to hang over a table of some kind, or else it’s going to get in the way as you or anyone else tries to get around the room.

Don’t Make the Focus of a Room On The TV

It’s a common theme in American homes today for the main focus of the room, especially in a living or family room, to be on the TV. There’s nothing intrinsically wrong with this, but if you want to take your interior design to the next level the focus of your home should not be on the TV.

For example, you can position your TV on a swivel mount so that it can be out of the way, rather than placing it directly above the mantelpiece. This way, you can still watch TV anyway as you want, while something else such as the fireplace can be the main focus of the room.

Layer Textures in The Room

Finally, you can use a method of layering texturing your room as well. This is arguably the best thing to give your home a more comfortable feeling. You can create a soft texture set against a natural texture. An example of a ‘soft texture’ would be velveted pillow covers, fur, and plush rugs set against stones, raw wood, or handmade ceramics.

Or maybe you would like to create a layer texturing look that’s more smooth and shiny, in which case you can have mirrored surfaces, glass, and shiny metal contrasting against leather sofas and polished wood floors. Make sense?

Conclusion

These are just five of many ideas that you could use to make the interior design of your home to the next level. These ideas can make your home more welcoming, more valuable, and a simply more enjoyable place to live.
